How do I build a career that combines my background in IT with Innovation?

I have a B.S. degree in computer informaton systems. I am a PMI-certified project manager. I have 12 years of IS experience in multiple fortune 500 companies mainly in EDI and web development, web application management, and project management. I'd like a career that combines IT with Innovation...maybe like consulting. What career options might there be and how to I build towards such a career?
