Do narcotic plants benefit in anyway from producing addictive chemicals?

I was wondering if there was an evolutionary reason why some plants developed the ability to produce chemicals such as opiates or mescalin which some people and presumably some animals find attractive, or do these chemicals perform some important function in the plant and it is purely coincidental that they have a narcotic effect on animals

Did you have any tests to check your small or large bowel? Just wondering if it could be intestinal, especially as you now have diarrhea. It may even be something as simple as irritable bowel syndrome. The ultrasound should have been sufficient to exclude gallbladder and liver disease. I'd go back to get them to recheck things. Maybe barium tests or MRI could help. Best of luck.

I am wanting to lose 20 pounds.. I have found it difficult to just drop the extra weight like I used to. I visited this center, and I liked everything about it except they advise you to take pills too. I will not do that at all. I want to lose weight naturally. Without meds. The cost is 600 for a year.. Any input?
