My philosophy teacher said, he made it his duty to read the bible...?

My business philosophy teacher (who's also was (and probably still is) a lawyer before he became a philosopher) said, he made it his business to read the bible no too long ago (he looks about 45-55, probably read the bible a 43, idk), and went on to say that "God did a lot of beautiful things," but the way he said it almost made it seem, subtly, like he was an atheist whom just decided to read the bible. My question is, are most philosophers more atheist/agnostic like, or religious like?
